Magnolia is one of two rivers that empty into Weeks Bay – and home to the only remaining year-round postal river route in the country. Since 1915, the US Postal service has delivered mail by boat – these days a 15-foot alumacraft. Sometimes dodging a rain shower in a boathouse, enjoying a cool drink of water from a resident on a pier… the deliveryman travels 31 miles of one of South Alabama’s most idyllic rivers. The four hour trip covers 180 homes – and boxes perched on the pier at just the right height.
