OK, we’re still going by the title we’ve held since 1997. The massive crepe myrtle downtown was dethroned by one in Wilcox County in 2014 – but still retains its State Champion title from the Alabama Forestry Commission. For years it was dubbed the oldest in the South. And you can’t let the truth get in the way of a good story. Find it at the entrance to the French Quarter just off Section Street.
